Steve Murray is the co-founder of RealTrends and now serves as a senior advisor to RealTrends and HW Media. He has more than 40 years of experience in the residential brokerage industry, and Gatheirng of Eagles is one of his favorite times of the year. This year, attendees can find Murray on stage during DealMakers as he speaks with other leaders about the trends in M&A across the real estate industry.
Murray recently sat down with RealTrends to discuss this year’s Gathering of Eagles.
RealTrends: What makes Gathering of Eagles different from other real estate conferences?
Steve Murray: Unlike others, our focus has always been sharing useful information with our guests. We aren’t selling our services and products. It sounds quaint, but it is a true differentiator. We actually care that these guests of ours feel welcome and that their enjoyment is our first priority.
RT: Are there any speakers or panelists you are particularly excited about this year?
SM: Having Mike Staver with us is huge. He inspires people as much as anyone I have known in our industry. He helps people get their heads and hearts straight. Gary Keller being with us for the first time in over 20 years is also special because he has a great perspective on the industry. But there are many really good panels as well.
RT: What are you most looking forward to at Gathering of Eagles 2023?
SM: Being with friends and leaders always gets my heart moving. This is especially true when we are all in the throes of the same tough market conditions. Listening to how other leaders are navigating these times, sharing ideas and just enjoying being together in person.
RT: Do you have a favorite memory from a past GOE?
SM: There are many good ones. One of my personal favorites was Paul DePodesta of Moneyball fame, who was unknown to most in the audience but who ended up captivating 350 leaders with no notes or slides. Powerful content. Another was having Jim Collins of Good to Great share attributes of powerful leaders. But I also have many great memories on the back decks with friends.
RT: What are your hopes for the future of Gathering of Eagles?
SM: I hope that we continue to focus on the needs of our guests by keeping speakers and panels relevant and loaded with useful information. That we continue to create the one conference where people feel like they are special and will leave remembering what a special time they had, both in the programming and the networking.
