The country’s top individual agents, like their peers who operate leading brokerage firms, recorded an incredible year in 2021. In fact, in our 15 years of tracking the top individual agents and teams, we’ve never seen a one year jump like we did from 2020 to 2021.
RealTrends + Tom Ferry America’s Best Real Estate Professionals must meet minimum production thresholds:
- An Individual Agent must close 50 residential transaction sides OR $20 million in closed sales volume
- A Team must close 75 residential transaction sides OR $30 million in closed sales volume

Number of qualified agents and teams see 157% jump
The number of leading individual agents who qualified exploded by 157% to 13,672 up from 5,316 in 2020. They grew their total closings to 641,522 closed transactions and their total $465 billion in closed sales volume.
Leading teams who qualified grew to 10,285 up 62.2%; they grew their total closed transactions to more than 1.2 million; total closed sales volume grew to $707.6 billion in 2021.
In total, the number of top individuals and teams grew from 18,400 to 23,957 in one year.
A few other interesting notes
Counting all individual agents, and all the Realtors® on the teams, there were a total of nearly 72,922 which represents roughly 4.6% of the estimated 1.6 million Realtors in the country. Realtors on our rankings accounted for 15.3% of all transactions serviced by Realtors, up from 11.5% in 2020, and their sales volume market share was 27.9%, up from 21.7% in 2020.
The average productivity of all individuals was 46.9 closed transactions per agent while team’s average productivity was 21.2 closed transactions per agent, counting all of the agents associated with teams.
