As a Millennial, the first thing I do when I’m thinking of buying something expensive is to research the product on review websites. I want to make sure that I’m not missing out on a better product or experience. For example, when I see a dry cleaner with two reviews and another with 40 reviews, I’m going to choose the one with 40 reviews every time.

According to a study by BrightLocal, an SEO company, 84 percent of people surveyed trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations from friends or family. For me, the reviews from random people feel authentic. That’s why real estate professionals should develop a targeted strategy for securing online reviews.

Here are some tips:

  1. Own your online presence. Create a space for people to leave you a review. Make a profile on Yelp, Google+, Facebook, Zillow and Trulia. Focus on only a couple of these to avoid becoming overwhelmed. This will also improve your search engine optimization (SEO).

  1. Testimonials are key. Real estate professionals should have a page on their website dedicated to housing customer testimonials.

  1. Go get reviews. Actively ask your customers for reviews. The best time to ask for a review is right after your customers compliment you on how you are handling the transaction or listing. Email them a link where they can post their review.
